Goal alignment

We have been talking recently on the topic of five vital questions that every CEO should ask.

Today's question #3: Do we have goal alignment?

Given number 2 above has been adequately addressed, look for consistency and alignment of goals cross functionally and inter-departmentally. And, consistent with corporate objectives. For example, is it marketing's responsibility for lead-gen or is it sales responsibility? High performing companies have a well defined process for lead-gen that naturally cascades along functional areas or disciplines as well as ACROSS functional lines or disciplines. Said another way, high performing companies have very clear delineation of roles, responsibilities and hand-offs.
