To go fast, go alone.
There is an old African proverb that we see in VISTAGE groups that says "To go fast, go alone. To go further, go together."
I've always liked that one and was reminded of tit again recently by my friend Mark. Frankly, in reflection, it wasn't until later in my career that I learned the value of going together.
To go fast, go alone. To go further, go together.
Like many of you, I like to think that I'm a "glass hall-full" person. I always approach my personal efforts knowing that I'll succeed at them. My gut instincts are typically "on target" though occasionally I dip or miss. I'm human. That optimism has always fueled my personal determination. Maybe that is true for you also?
In this final chapter, I'm really not interested in heading out further on my own. My role has certainly evolved. I choose team. It brings me peace, inspiration, security and courage. Working together with others gives me a lot of personal satisfaction. Instinctively, I know that we'll get more done together when the team is all oaring in the same direction. That said, "lonership" wants to creep in & teaching/mentoring others occasionally tries my patience. That's alright. It is probably as uncomfortable for them as it is for me.
We'll get through it together. Like me, I hope you'll keep going.
